 Re: Retaking Brentaal IV
Sophia sat in the cockpit of her J-type star skiff, Simplicity, entering the coordinates for re-entry into the system. As she entered Bestaal IV's orbit, her communication panel lit, “Attention Star Skiff, please identify yourself, your ship and your purpose.”
Sophia reached for the comm panel, “This is Sarah Bensan, the ship is my personal ship, Simplicity. I am a resident, returning with my new ship.” Sophia took a deep breath as she awaited a response, “Carry on Simplicity. Head to Hangar bay 40H for further identification.” Sophia let out a long breath and headed towards the hangar.
Once cleared from the 'customs' agent, she was able to go about her business. She caught a shuttle that took her to a highrise apartment in the city of Denshalla. She rode the lift to Apartment Q11, and slid the keycard through the slot, allowing her access to her apartment. Once inside, she pulled her blaster out of her handbag, and swept through the apartment, making sure there was no one else there. She then looked carefully at anything not nailed down, and made sure nothing funny was going on with it. Once she cleared the place, she looked into the bedroom closet, finding a package for her. She left the package in the closet, and returned to the sitting room. She opened her holopad and began reading into the local news, finding out exactly what was being spewed to the public.
After digging around in news archives, Sophia determined that Eklo had taken control of the planet in an emergency meeting after Governor Teklos dissappeared for several days. That was six months ago, and Teklos has not been seen or heard of since. It seems Eklo had lobbied for support several months before, condemning tax increases and wasteful spending on the part of the GE. Eklo and his group seemed to intimidate Teklos then, forcing a public smear campaign showing Teklos as a puppet for the Empire. On the surface, it seemed like a smooth takeover. The citizens were told that the bases were turned over to Brentaal's control, and that the Eklo was securing the planet with his own army, spinning peacefulness and prosperity. In reality, it looked as if Eklo carefully planned Teklos's 'removal' and his own promotion.
Sophia's head spun of what happened here. It was a masterful plan, spinning that the GE was the big bad guy interfering with this planet. Something was not right, and she couldn't put her finger on it. She then began to dig into the social news, looking to see who the players were. She smiled when a couple turned up, Allen and Shiara Kulle. They were like royalty on the planet, their faces plastered all over the place at different functions, galas, art openings, etc. Sophia sighed, the couple had looked happy. Oh well, orders were orders. She went to bed early that night, focusing on getting a good night's sleep, as she had a busy morning ahead of her.
After two days and little sleep, Sophia was successful at hacking into the Deshalla computer network. She had set up an intricate pathway into the system, ensuring her presence would not be noticed. Sophia grinned at the screen as she entered in instructions to retrieve cargo manifests, ship registries, and customs records of items and people that had come in and out of the planet. Keeping an eye on her chrono, she started the copy of the data, knowing she only had 10 minutes before her connection would be compromised. She walked the floor of the apartment, back and forth, her thumbnail in between her teeth, her eyes going back and forth between the data stream and the chrono. At one minute left, she sat down before the console, fingernails tapping on the table, ready to pull the connection. With just 9 seconds left, the stream was complete and Sophia terminated the connection. Sitting back in her chair, she breathed a sigh of relief, letting her racing heart return to normal. She went over her mental checklist, and marked off the data stream. All that was left was to arrange a little 'accident' and get off planet. She took the datacard out of the unit and placed it in a false top in makeup compact, slipping it into her pocket. She then lied down on top of her bed, falling asleep, letting herself relax for the next 8 or so hours. Tomorrow was going to be a long day.
