Imperial Intelligence

Bureaus

Analysis Bureau

line

This bureau handles vast amounts of data from millions of different sources. It also looks for trends and patterns in data which may be useful for Intelligence operations.

Media

This branch examines the media of the Empire – public scandocs, newscasts, comlink transmissions etc. looking for patterns and hidden meanings which may give a clue to the enemy’s next course of action.

Signal

Signal’s duty is enormous – whilst Media handles the content of transmissions, Signal traces who they were from, and their intended recipients. They examine many things that the average citizen would not think of, such as line noise (checking for patterns, codes etc.) and images. It was Signal which discovered that the Rebel Alliance had discovered a copy of the plans for the Empire’s new space station, which they used to murder Emperor Palpatine and his closest advisors.

Cryptanalysis (Crypt)

When another branch discovers a possible coded/encrypted piece of data, it is sent to Crypt to decode it. Crypt are good at their job – as well as decoding enemy transmissions, they invent new methods of encoding data for the Empire to use. Their work is time-critical, and they have a major responsibility within Imperial Intelligence – if they do not succeed in decoding the data, missions may be compromised.

Technology Bureau (Tech)

Tech have two main responsibilities – firstly to create new equipment for Imperial Intelligence agents to use. Secondly, they examine captured enemy equipment to figure out how it works and what can be gained from it. They are given a lavish budget, and have some of the finest technological minds working for them.

Interrogation

When an enemy has been captured by Intelligence agents (or sometimes by other branches), they are usually sent to Interrogation. They are less bloodthirsty than the Imperial Security Bureau, and have a slightly lower rate of cracking enemies. However, their interrogations are often part of a higher purpose. Unless a prisoner is thought to hold vital information, their ordeal is usually light. Interrogation employs psychological techniques – they probe the mind, and have even managed to alter the neuroprogramming of weaker prisoners to act as double agents when they are released.
